Cataclysm Day 4 – things to note…

Well, its day 4 of Cataclysm. 5 man heroic dungeons are still a pain in the arse.

A few issues I’ve encountered that I got to remind myself often. Mechanics are very much different from Wrath of the Lich King, having to use crowd control is often a must and the most important factor to prevent a wipe. Everything hits like a truck, or should I say, everything hits like Lich King. So understanding the fight and careful planning is a must. Remember Molten Core, where wiping over 20 times is normal.

Also with particular to retribution paladins, we pull too much threat when we use Seal of Righteousness in 5 man heroic dungeons. An average tank just could not keep up with our cleave threat.

Another thing to note is the about tank during the dungeons, I’ve encountered far too many tanks that are either under hit rating or expertise rating, no matter if they have awesome health, when a tank is under hit or expertise rating, we melees have issues, especially when a retribution paladin runs around with Seal of Righteousness.

Why would I say that. Simple. When a tank is under hit or expertise rating, he/she hits less often, glancing and misses affects the overall threat generated. I’ve often been in cases where I out threat the tank because firstly my Seal of Righteousness proved to be drawing threat more than a tank can handle. Secondly, cause I’m hit and expertise capped, I hit more than the tank and thus I get more threat over time. It took me quite a few runs to figure this out. It ain’t funny when a single Templar Verdict or Exorcism ends up with a big orange word “High Threat” above every mobs. Paladins don’t have instant threat reduction skills, ours reduce our threat over 10 secs, which seriously with our dots messing around, isn’t very much useful at all. So for now, the only way for retribution paladins are to do auto attacks when our threat is high, let the tank build threat back.

I did meet an awesome tank while running Grim Batol heroic, 120K health pool, but good geared, I have no issues spamming with my Seal of Righteousness or do full rotation DPS. But sad to say, we didn’t have such a good priest, like what some of them said, priests healers runs out of mana faster than any healer class, having to drink after every fight, going out of mana vene before the fight ends… Another run with a holy paladin proved right, he had nearly half his mana pool all the time…

As Cataclysm is still pretty new, there are still a lot to learn, to understand, not just understanding my own class, but others as well…
